Astrophysicist Dr. James Page to Speak at 2024 Slattery Lecture

麻豆社鈥檚 Beverly K. Fine School of the Sciences will host its annual Slattery Lecture on Wednesday, October 30 at 4 p.m. in the Rockland Banquet Room.
This year鈥檚 featured lecture, 鈥淲itnessing the Birth of Solar Systems: My Adventures with Space Telescopes,鈥 will be presented by Dr. James Page, an astrophysicist at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore.
Dr. Page works on the James Webb Space Telescope, leading a team supporting operations of the Near InfraRed Spectrograph (NIRSpec), one of the four scientific instruments on the telescope. As an expert in the field of star formation, Dr. Page鈥檚 work explores the origins of our solar system, and others like it, by studying solar systems currently in the process of being born鈥攁lso known as protostellar systems.
The event will also recognize Biochemistry major MacKenzie Redding as the 2024 Slattery Scholar.
The Slattery Lecture honors the legacy of Susan Palmer Slattery, Ph.D., former Chair of Stevenson鈥檚 Mathematics Department, who passed away in 2010. Slattery was a vital force in the University鈥檚 Fine School of the Sciences and worked tirelessly to engage students and colleagues in the pursuit of science, academic excellence, and collegiality across disciplines.
